Released By-Catch

Posted by admin  Published in General
The Independence posted this report March 26:

“We have been scratching away on the tuna the last couple of days, finding fair fishing in the early morning and again late in the afternoon on mostly 120 to 180-pound fish with a few bigger, there is also that 50 to 90-pound fish that we have caught as by-catch, some of which we have released, and we tagged a few also. The Wahoo are also nonexistent, with five or six caught on the bank in three days out here. Weather is just perfect, with just enough wind to fly the kite, and calm seas.”

Short Window

Kevin Osborne wrote March 26 for the Intrepid:

“Another long day of picking away at fish one here and there throughout the day with a short window at sunset for a few nice fish. The Bank remains a one spot fishery for the most part and we are third boat here. We did get a few more personal best fish today. It is always a great thing to see the anglers very happy with a 140 to 180-pound Tuna with one Cow in the mix. Personal bests went to Michael Yolken, James Salmorin, Brian Kataoka, and Craig Ogino. We are catching a few more Flyers and Puffers, but overall we find tough bait catching. A big hit on Puffers would make a world of difference, as was the case with the high liner boat this week. We will get all set up and fish hard again tomorrow.”

Need To See Land

Royal Polaris had this report for March 26:

“Today was another good day out at the bank. All the fish landed today were in the 160 to 190 range, with two going over the 200 pound mark. Most of our anglers say they have had enough of Hurricane bank, they need to see some land. They have ocean fever, after seeing the sun, water, and no land for over a week, they need land. So we will head to the buffer zone for our last couple of days. The morning bite was a bit slow, and the rest of the day was a fish here, and fish there, but once the sunset, it was game on, if you were in the water, you got bit.

"We did have an unusual catch today, Clarence 'The Pelican' Becker was fishing a sinker-rigged Puffer and hooked a very large Shark, everyone has a name for this type of shark, some call it a goblin shark, some call it a mega mouth shark, I just call it ugly."
