“We are enjoying beautiful weather on our ride down to the grounds,” said the report from American Angler November 28, “as morale and expectations are high. We stopped midmorning to break it up and work out the kinks and found some yellowtail and smaller grade tuna that fit the bill. After a few hours of over and unders, we are moving down to the lower banks with high hopes. Jun Akiike shows one of the rewards of the Salas 6x Jr.”
No Goats For These RopersWe spent our day traveling South in very nice weather,” noted the report from Intrepid November 28, “looking at several bird schools along the way. We did see some sign of Tuna this morning on some Common Dolphin that did not want to cooperate, but we found some flotsam that was holding Dorado and Wahoo. A couple of Frigate birds pointed the way to Dorado leaping out of the water around a GIANT pile of rope. What looked to be a tow rope or ''Hawser'' about 4'' in diameter and several hundred feet long make a great place to find life offshore.
“Quality Dorado in the thousands as well as Wahoo, Marlin, Tripletail, Turtles and assorted Crabs called this mess home. There were so many Dorado on it that we were only able to hook a handful of the many Wahoo that were beneath it, landing only one. Being a hazard to navigation is an understatement, and its size and weight made it impossible to bring aboard, not to mention making lots of sea creatures homeless. So we did the only thing we could do and wrap it up as tight as possible making it a much smaller and somewhat solid object, put some markers in it and made a call out to boats in the area. I'm sure we won’t be the only fishermen to take advantage of this during its lifetime.”
“Plenty Of Sign”
Royal Polaris had a report from November 28: “Weather was a little breezy today with plenty of sunshine. Tough fishing. We caught 32 Yellowfin tuna and 17 Wahoo. The tuna were 40 to 170 pounds. Only 5 fish over 100 pounds. Dennis Inaba had the big fish of the day. There is plenty of sign around, we just need to find fish that are hungry. Because of the weak signal, we will send photos later in the trip.”
Shogun Checks In
“We departed San Diego a couple of days ago and are heading south towards the Hurricane bank. This is the annual Seeker Rods sponsored 13-day trip and it's great to have many of our longtime passengers in attendance. The weather thus far has been coming at us off our stern, which makes for a good ride, at least going this direction, downhill. We have about 15 to 18 knots of wind this morning, clear skies and a warm air temperature.”
