Polaris Supreme Mid-Day Facebook Report
“Wow what a morning. Crazy El Nino-Generated Weather. Thunder Storms, Lightning Strikes next to the boat, Rain, Rain, Rain. There I said it El Nino! I don't know what everybody was waiting for. We have been driving around in 72-degree water for a month now, it’s a steady 74 and pushing 80 east of Guadalupe Island. It's September 9th and we are catching yellowfin and bluefin 70 to 160 miles from San Diego with no signs of it slowing. Today, we have caught only rat Yellows so far but have high hopes for this afternoon.”

First Day Out

La Paz Flats & Skins

“Las Arenas did better than it has been. That was encouraging. Much more dorado with some nice schoolie fish. Las Arenas all year has literally been slower than slow except for roosterfish. But this week we got into some decent dorado, roosterfish plus even a (surprise) wahoo! Pargo were also a good fallback with pargo mulatto (barred pargo) and yellow snapper filling some coolers.
“La Paz was OK. Steady, but as mentioned, hit-or-miss. Dorado ranged from smaller 10 pounders to some 25 pounders. A few larger ones got away. We also had a few sailfish show up in the bites with all fish released.”
Rains Bring Fish, Jungle

“It is pretty much all about Dorado at the moment. There have been schooling fish found all over the East Cape. The rains have also dumped debris in the sea and any floating patch is producing fish. The best areas have been in the vicinity of the Light house. Bigger fish were found yesterday slightly further south just beyond Los Frailes, bulls in the 40's.
“The Tuna have been really patchy this year. Some days we run into them and by the next day they have moved on. Yesterday one of the boats found them 40 miles south east and loaded up. Fish were football to about 25 pounds. Most boats headed that way this morning. Marlin are around as usual. I think the Blue marlin bite has been a little disappointing this year but I do not ever recall such a hot Sailfish bite. We had a triple hookup last week (only landed two, though).
“Stripers are around but not in the numbers we have when the water temp is a little cooler. We have been getting really good bait (Caballitos and Barracuda) for the bill fish. All lures are also being hit. The La Rivera bank has been producing good bottom fishing. Guys like Capt. Santos relishing the Pargo and Dog Tooth snapper bite. We have had a few Wahoo come in this week also. The Roosterfish bite picked up this week with excellent fish boated in the bay at La Rivera, 40 pounds-plus.”
