Skipper Scott said he hung one on a Hopkins jig and lost it when the 9/0 Siwash hook straightened out. Four of the wahoo were decked, along with a dozen yellowfin tuna and limits of dorado up to 25 or 30 pounds.
“They got the fish on jigs dropped deep under a giant kelp,” remarked ‘Rockcod Rick’ Maxa of Fisherman’s Landing and Let’s Talk Hookup. “They bent out three hooks!”
How much longer this incredible fishing will last is anyone’s guess, but decking four wahoo in one day, aboard a day and a half trip, will go down as one of the high points of a season of peak fishing.
Scratching Skin

“We scratched away at the Wahoo again for the day, although it was not as good as yesterday's fishing, we managed to get everyone on board another Skinny to add to their catch. In the afternoon the wind came up a little and we took it as a sign to get an early jump on our travels. The weather is forecast for some calm seas for the rest of our trip and we plan on fishing our whole way home to add more variety to the RSW well. What a fun trip this has been so far and we aim to keep it going, but that's a given with this group, a great time is always had.”
10-Day Bits

“Royal Polaris picked up a few Dorado and we also had a day ending Grouper bite! Fantastic!”
The boat posted on Facebook the same day:
“Hi's 10-day classic fishing adventure is heating up! We ended with a nice grouper bite yesterday. Today Wahoo Willy strikes it rich!”
End Of That Story

“A picture perfect ending. The grumpy weather rapidly subsided leaving behind a big, rolling, mixed ground and wind swell that served to emphasize the good fortune of what became zero wind by noon. Though it wasn't an early slam dunk like yesterday (for us it rarely is) we put in the time, ground out the miles, passed many an unproductive kelp, then finally, through the old collective network of valued friends, got dialed into the goods.
“Blue glory; neon blue, yellow, and gold. Made to order mid to ‘ballslapper’ grade dorado were primed for our arrival napkin tucked into shirt, fork and knife in hand. Of the thousands surrounding that comically small piece of flotsam our limits didn't even make a dent; good news for the next guys that arrived to partake in the bounty, and the upcoming runs.
“Variety, sufficient quantity, and quality – the standard tenets of long range success that anyone following this daily narrative have heard me recount probably too many times, were the result of our efforts this time. In retrospect what an ideal three day voyage: a first afternoon offshore for good action on yellowfin tuna, a second, full day at the island that produced a fantastic shot on quality yellowtail and variety and also protected us from difficult weather, and finally a last full day offshore that resulted in wide open fishing for beautiful grade dorado. We could not be more pleased; good fortune in every respect.
“Final voyage photos feature a couple of long time Royal Star veterans who fortunately had the time to squeeze in this late season three day run. Lannie Woulff didn't miss out on the fun either landing a full limit of the beautiful, delicious, dorado during the afternoon fun.”
